His Calling or Yours

“The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.”   Ephesians 1:18

If you are a minister of the gospel, you have certainly made this prayer at some point, or are still praying, ‘Lord reveal to me my calling; I want to know my ministry. My concern is if it were your ministry, it would imply that there is something you have to fulfil. But if it is Christ’s ministry, He is inviting you to participate in what He has done. We are so inseparably one with Christ that we cannot have a ministry of our own apart from His. The ministry you have is not your ministry; it is not your calling. Once we know that we are participating in Jesus’ calling and not our calling, and that the ministry we are a part of is Jesus’ ministry towards the world, we will experience such liberating joy.

We are all partakers of His ministry and He enables us to partake in different aspects of His one ministry. This is what is called grace. Your anointing as a minister is not different from that of another minister; by implication, none is more anointed than the other because we are all partaking of the anointing of Christ. What differs amongst ministers is the grace. We all have grace differing in partaking of that which Christ gives us as His mission. At every specific moment of your life, there is a mission Christ has entrusted you to partake of and He enables you for that which He entrusts to you.

The Exceeding Greatness Of His Power

“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,” (KJV)

Ephesians 1:19-20

These two verses show us the greatest display of the power of God in human history. All the fullness and riches of God are already in the saints; it is not something that is going to be, nor what they are yet to see. In the Greek version of this passage, it says,

‘To know what is the extent of the magnitude which is infinite, of His power that is operating in us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power; To know what is the power of the power of the power that is already working towards us who believe.’

Most often, ministers are in the quest for more power. God does not give us a portion or a measure of the anointing. We have received the fullness of the Spirit of Christ without measure. Every believer, even the one who receives Christ right now, has the fullness of the immeasurable measure of Christ, greater than that of Moses and Elijah. When God raised Christ from the dead, the power was towards us and this power continues to operate. It is the power that took Christ out of the depth of hell and set Him at the right hand of the Father in heaven. We are the habitation of God; God does not have to move because we are the move of God.  We are inseparably one with the Father.

You are not a servant with whom God has signed a contract to carry out an assignment for Him. The word servant is the Greek word ‘doulos’ which refers to a son who serves his father.  When a son is serving in his father’s business, he is not looking for a salary or compensation, but he knows the father’s business is his business.  What links a son to his father’s business is not the service he does but it is who he is. You are a son who serves.

You are a son of God, anointed with the Spirit without measure; you have a limitless, surpassing power that continues to operate in you. You have all the energy, power and capacities of God to fulfil the task that is before you. The anointing of Christ in you is unsurpassable, unlimited and surpassing. The power that appointed Jesus at the right hand of God is what is operational in you. You are not limited, but you have received the portfolio of invisible assets.

Your ministry is God working with God. It is not you trying to do something for God because you cannot do anything for God. The One who is more than enough has not only called you, He gave you His calling and He is in you.

“Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,”   Ephesians 1:21-22

In our non-conscious theology, this speaks of an evil entity. The term principality used in the verse is the Greek word ‘arche’, which means anything which is first. The power which is working in you, that set Christ at the right hand of the Father, is far above everything which is first.  It is power that continues to work even in the world to come. This verse speaks of Christ as ‘pantokrato’, as Lord of all-encompassing power. He is in you, thus all power is working in you 24/7. Without the understanding of this basic principle, you cannot be an effective minister.

Christ is the head and the Church is the body; we are the expression of Christ the head.  He has put all things under His feet. What is under Him, as proof of it being under Him, is under you, being His body.

Jesus is not head over all things for the Church. If He was, it would be His authority exercised for the Church. But He is head over all things to the Church. This implies that, that which He is head of, you are head of.  You are head over all things even as Christ is head over all things, always above all, always over all. All of Christ is in all of you. Christ is not diminished in percentage according to our number; He lives in all of us as if He was only living in just one of us. As a minister, you are a partaker of the fullness of Christ and you are so inseparably one with Him to the point that you partake and participate of His mission to the world, His calling, with the fullness of who He is.

‘There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism,’    Ephesians 4:4-5

Christ in you has given Himself to some as Apostles, to some as Prophets, to others as Evangelists, Pastor and Teacher. It is His ministry, His offices and when you yield yourself to Him, He will manifest through you according to the grace He has invested in you. Once you acknowledge this as a minister, you will always experience increase because in reality you do not have a ministry; it is His ministry and His calling you are partaking of.
